Spreadsheet Design System
Once the UI and modal patterns were established, the next challenge was ensuring that the spreadsheets themselves were consistent, predictable, and usable.
Before this work, AdvisorHUB had no spreadsheet standards. I designed a complete spreadsheet design system that governs:
File naming
Tab naming
Tab ordering
Column ordering
This system ensures that every export — regardless of page or relationship level — follows the same rules.
Advisors often manage dozens of exports across multiple clients. Without consistent naming, files become difficult to organize.
I introduced a naming convention that encodes essential context directly into the filename:
Relationship name
Relationship level
Page or table context
Tab name (for single‑table exports)

File Naming Conventions
Tab Naming Conventions
Spreadsheet naming conventions for all exports

Multi‑table exports required a second layer of standardization: tab naming.
I created a unified taxonomy that applies across Financials exports:

Advisor workflows span multiple surfaces in AdvisorHUB, but the most export‑heavy pages are:
Book of Business
Financials at Family, Service, and Entity levels
Each of these pages contains dense tables that advisors frequently need to export.
Export Entry Points in the UI
A unified export menu platform
The menu provides two actions:
This pattern scales cleanly across:
To ensure consistency across AdvisorHUB, I introduced a single export menu pattern that appears in the same location on every Financials page and on the Book of Business page
Export this table — for quick, single‑dataset workflows
Export all financial tables — for preparing comprehensive client review materials
Family Financials
Service Financials
Entity Financials
Book of Business
Advisors never need to relearn how exporting works — the interaction is consistent everywhere.
AdvisorHUB Exports:
Case Study
Context & Problem
AdvisorHUB is built around structured, tabular financial data. Advisors rely on this data to prepare for client conversations, analyze portfolios, and collaborate with with other advisor roles. Because of this, exporting data into Excel is not a secondary action — it is a core workflow.
However, when I began this work, AdvisorHUB had no export functionality at all. Advisors could view data, but they couldn’t extract it, share it, or use it in downstream workflows. This created friction across nearly every part of their day:
They manually copied data into spreadsheets.
They couldn’t prepare client review materials efficiently.
AdvisorHUB needed a complete export system — one that worked across every relationship level, every financial category, and every advisor workflow.
Design the entire exporting experience MVP from the ground up, including:
Where exports live in the UI
How large exports are handled
How spreadsheets are structured
How revenue and fees integrate into multi‑tab exports
This case study describes how I designed a unified, scalable export system for AdvisorHUB.

What the modal and pattern solves
Handling Very Large Exports
Some AdvisorHUB exports — especially from the Book of Business — can contain thousands of rows. Without feedback, advisors would be unsure whether the export was processing or stuck.
To solve this, I designed a large export modal that appears whenever an export is expected to take longer than a typical single‑table download.
Sets expectations — Advisors know the export may take time.
Communicates system behavior — Advisors see that the export is actively processing.
Supports future asynchronous workflows — The modal pattern can evolve into email‑based delivery for extremely large exports.
This modal became a reusable pattern across AdvisorHUB, ensuring consistent handling of heavy operations.
